Work for IY(UK)

Iyengar Yoga (UK) is run by, and for the benefit of, its members.

Much of the work of running our organisation is done by volunteers, many of whom feel that by giving some of their time to IY(UK) they are helping spread and support the teachings of Guruji, from whom we have all gained so much.

Volunteers – Current Vacancies

Deputy Chair

This is primarily to support the Chair by taking on some of the tasks that need to be completed. Ideally the Deputy would be willing to stand as the next Chair but this is not essential. It is a great way to have an overview of everything we do as an association, to get involved with things that interest you, and to contribute to all aspects of our decision making and really shape our future. If you’ve any questions, please get in touch with Charlotte at chair@iyengaryoga.org.uk or Leonie at leonie@iyengaryoga.org.uk.

Please see the link for further specific details on the role of Deputy Chair.

Treasurer

The Treasurer of IY(UK) is also appointed to the Board of Directors of IY(UK). The position is most ideally suited to a qualified accountant; at a minimum, the position requires knowledge of accounting practices and book-keeping skills. The Treasurer is supported by the Deputy Treasurer, and a part-time Finance Administrator.

As this is a specialised role, while it would ideally be fulfilled by a member of the Executive Council, it is also open to all members of Iyengar Yoga (UK) and our wider membership. Please email Nick Johnson (Deputy Treasurer) if you would like to know more at nick@iyengaryoga.org.uk

Archives Committee

The Archives Committee currently seeks:

  • One co-opted member

The Committee aims to record, store and manage data relating to the preservation of the history of yoga, in particular Iyengar yoga and develop ways of making the material accessible to members. Please email Sue Cresswell if you would like to know more at archives@iyengaryoga.org.uk

Children, Young Adults and Families Committee

The Children, Young Adults and Families Committee currently seeks:

  • Two co-opted members

The Committee aims to support teachers in introducing more children, young people and families to Iyengar yoga (and staying with us!).  Please email Annie Beatty if you would like to know more at cyafc@iyengaryoga.org.uk

Communications & PR Committee

The Communications & PR Committee currently seeks:

  • One co-opted member (graphic designer)

The Iyengar Yoga News team is looking for a volunteer graphic designer with experience in design for print. A working knowledge of InDesign is essential and knowledge of Photoshop would be helpful. The magazine is published twice a year. For more information, please contact Minna Alanko-Falola at minna@iyengaryoga.org.uk.

Equity Committee

The Equity Committee currently seeks:

  • Two co-opted members

The Equity Committee gathers information on diversity and inclusion across the organisation, is helping to develop a Strategy to improve diversity and inclusion within IY(UK) and represents members with experience of discrimination and exclusion.  The Committee also provides recommendations and support to members and to the Executive Council on matters of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Please contact Tina Freeland if you would like to know more at equity@iyengaryoga.org.uk

Iyengar Yoga Development Fund

The Iyengar Yoga Development Fund Committee currently seeks:

  • One co-opted member

The Committee manages the Iyengar Yoga Development Fund (IYDF) to provide yoga classes to marginalised and excluded groups of people, who would not otherwise be able to access Iyengar yoga.

Please contact Helen White if you would like any further information at white.helen@btinternet.com

Research Committee

The Research Committee currently seeks:

  • One co-opted member

The Committee compiles reports and fosters further research into the benefits of Iyengar yoga. Please get touch with Sandra Gallagher if you would like any further information at research@iyengaryoga.org.uk.
