We are honoured to welcome Abhijata Iyengar, granddaughter of BKS Iyengar, and co-director of our mother institute RIMYI in Pune, India, as our headline teacher for this 2021 virtual convention.

Abhijata is an inspiring and dynamic teacher, who will teach a daily live class, on four consecutive mornings, offering us her deep insight into the art, science and philosophy of Iyengar yoga. This is a very special opportunity for our UK Iyengar community to receive Abhijata’s teachings, through this bespoke programme designed to be responsive, stabilising and inspirational, at a time when we need it most.

2021 Iyengar Yoga (UK) Convention Bursary Fund
This year we are delighted to announce the formation of the 2021 Iyengar Yoga (UK) Convention Bursary Fund. This fund is open to any UK practitioner with a minimum of 18 months Iyengar yoga practice, who may be experiencing financial hardship, due to Covid-19 or another situation. The fund was launched to help remove financial barriers to participation, at this time of uncertainty, for anyone who would otherwise not be able to attend Abhijata’s convention. The fund has been made possible with donations from Iyengar yoga teachers and practitioners across the UK and we are able to offer 25 free places to Abhijata’s Convention this year.“Don’t be exclusive, be inclusive not only in Āsana but every walk of life” BKS Iyengar

A programme of talks open to all: available FREE
In addition to Abhijata’s teaching, we plan to hold a programme of talks led by inspirational contributors, bringing their lived experience and professional expertise to explore yoga and anti-racism, inclusion and social justice. These talks will be available over the weekend, and as recorded material after the event. This part of the convention will be available to all yoga practitioners, not just those who have booked tickets for Abhijata’s teaching. Further information will follow in the weeks to come.
