FUNDING SECURED FOR PURPOSE-BUILT YOGA INSTITUTE TO BE CREATED IN HEREFORDSHIRE
Hereford is set to see an increase its Iyengar yoga presence thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of IY (UK) teacher Jenny-May While and a £74,000 grant from the Sport England Inspired Facilities grant scheme.
Jenny-May has been practising Iyengar yoga for over 15 years and established Hereford Yoga CIC (Community Interest Company) last year.
She has seen an increased demand for industry-peak yoga tuition as more people look for an activity which benefits both the body and the mind, and identified a need for a bespoke setting.
Jenny-May has now secured premises at Number 10 Foley Trading Estate with a view to opening in early Spring 2016, thanks to the financial award which will pay for the building’s refurbishment.
The Hereford Yoga Institute, which will focus entirely Iyengar yoga, will include space for up to 30 students in a specialised studio, changing facilities, a lounge reception area and a therapy room.
The Institute will expand on the already thriving Iyengar yoga community in Herefordshire, where seven certified teachers currentlyprovide over 30 classes for hundreds of students in Hereford and surrounding area.
“Yoga is a perfect way to increase strength, fitness and flexibility in a non-competitive environment. Irrespective of age, fitness level and ability, the new Hereford Yoga Institute will promote physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing,” says Jenny-May.
“I am absolutely thrilled that Sport England was able to support our grant bid. The next three months will be extremely exciting and I am confident that our new premises will appeal to both our current students and plenty of new people who would like to improve their lifestyles.”
Jenny-May is also keen to build and create partnerships across Herefordshire which will enable hard-to-reach and community groups to try yoga for the first time. Hereford Yoga CIC already provides a number of subsidised classes for specific groups, and will invest in making the benefits of yoga available to all.
Jenny-May concludes: “Iyengar is recognised globally as the ‘gold standard’ in yoga teaching. We are very much looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming everyone to this inspiring activity.”
