The Mentors and Assessors Support Group of which I am a member is hoping to encourage more mentors to contribute to and use this Resource Bank. It is for all of us to share ideas and to bring up any thoughts we may have relating to any aspect of mentoring. Mentoring does not only (or even primarily) consist of how to prepare trainees and mentees for assessment. It involves the education in yoga of all those who are in love with the subject and who are passionate about communicating it to others. So it is also therefore about practice and about asanas and about learning.

With this in mind and in the hope of inspiring others to offer their thoughts about an asana, or a series or family of asanas, and about the practice of them, I am here offering a piece about Utkatasana. It was originally written, and the pictures taken (just before Christmas 2021), as part of a series called ‘Pose of the Month’ for the Edinburgh Iyengar Yoga Centre website. So apologies to anyone who has already seen it.
