How to access the Convention on Zoom

You will be emailed a Zoom link on Thursday 14th January, this should have arrived by 5pm. Please ensure you check your spam/junk folders before contacting us if you have not received your email by Friday 15th contact:

It is essential that you have a device, such as a phone, tablet or computer to use and you will need good internet access and good audio visuals to fully participate. We will be using Zoom webinar so you will not be expected to join with your microphone and camera on, however you may be asked to switch them on if you’ve asked a question, also please see the note below regarding a request for ‘seen students’. Please download Zoom for your desktop/laptop or the App for your device (phone/tablet.) It is important that you have the latest update of Zoom, we therefore advise doing a test launch in advance to prompt updates.

This Zoom seminar meeting room will open at 8.45am on 16 January, (15 minutes before) with Jawahar’s teaching starting promptly at 9am.

Chat Function

Often natural anxiety takes over for participants at the beginning of any convention, and in a Zoom based class this can come through to the teacher via the chat function. So we want to be mindful of the effects on the atmosphere of that, and trust that any anxiety quickly disappears once the yoga itself begins. Rest assured, that technical problems, if there are any, will be obvious to our team and we will move to solve them quickly. Although the chat function will be on as is usual in Zoom, Jawahar will not be able to answer any questions directly during the classes via this route. However for the Q&A, the chat function will be a useful device, and participants will be invited to submit questions for Jawahar via this route.

In Case of Internet breakdown

If there is an unavoidable breakdown of internet transmission from our end, wait without unmuting your device, or rejoin as it is often restored in a  few minutes. If a complete breakdown occurs a member of our team will write to you by email so that you feel fully informed. If for any reason your own device or internet breaks down, just rejoin again, or join the next session with the appropriate session links. All participants will be sent the session recordings to practice: available from 17 til 31 January 2021.

As well as a device, as mentioned above, you will need a space at home to lay down a yoga mat without obstructions, in addition you’ll need 1 or 2 mats, 4 foam pads or 4 – 5 blankets (or as many required for sarvāngāsana), 2 bricks, 2 belts / straps, and a bolster and a chair. If you are limited with props, please feel free to use household items as support. Use dining table chairs for example. You will be shown how best to work with household furniture.  Plus of course any other equipment you might need at home. If you need to purchase equipment please see our Merchandise page.

Concessionary Rates

IY(UK) have always offered a concessionary rate for Annual Conventions as a matter of policy, for those who could show proof of benefits. However the environment has changed during the pandemic and hardship has hit a greater number of people, so during this time our concession policy has been updated to promote access.

Iyengar yoga students who are suffering financial hardship as a result of the Covid–19 pandemic, or who are able to provide proof that they are in receipt of certain benefits, can claim a concessionary rate for any online IY(UK) Convention event.

The concessionary rate for Jawahar Bangera’s Mini Convention Event on 16th January 2021 is £30.
Iyengar yoga students wishing to apply for this concessionary rate can do so by email to Jess Wallwork at

Note: anyone who has already purchased a virtual convention place find that their financial circumstances have changed in recent weeks/months, you could apply for a reduction from the normal fee to the concessionary rate by emailing

And finally, IY(UK) offers a one household, one price policy for virtual conventions, this means that you only need to purchase one place at a virtual convention for your house, though please note, all attendees must meet the required criteria. Should you have transferred your place/s from a face to face convention, you may now qualify for a refund, please contact
