I am delighted to be beautiful island of Paros at the Aliki Panorama Hotel in Greece for a third year..

It is on the wonderful island of Paros in the Cyclades Islands (now considered the new alternative to Mykonons!).  Based in the town of Aliki on the southwest coast of Paros, which has at numerous restaurants and tavernas, a few little boutique shops, cafes and ice cream shops and natural beaches in town. Aliki is a beautiful coastal village with a picturesque port, and it still has a very traditional Greek character.  The tavernas and restaurants in the town feature home grown produce and locally sourced fish.

One of the hotel owners has a special connection to Mr Iyengar, because her mother was one of his first cohorts of teacher trainee students back in the 1970s!  As a result, there’s a fully equipped and air conditioned studio on the terrace, which even includes wall ropes, ceiling ropes and proper yoga chairs!

We will be based in town, so you can be as independent as you want, and there will be ample opportunities for retail therapy and for exploring the island.  Buses run regularly from Aliki to the central ferry port on the island, Paroikia, and from there you can get buses to other points on the island, include Naoussa. It is possible to do day trips to Antiparos (or to extend your stay to visit there).  It is very inexpensive to hire a car here (ca £100 a week), so you may want to consider doing that if you’re travelling with anyone else and want to explore the island more fully.

The hotel is 3 minutes walk from the village centre and the beach. There are three natural beaches within walking distance of the hotel.  Pre-yoga sea swims optional!!  There will be a 10 yoga classes across the week, with a time off for exploring the island.  The time between breakfast and the evening class is completely free for you to visit the local beaches or the area or to simply relax with a good book..The hotel has an above ground swimming pool and sun loungers, plus it is very nice to relax on the terrace.  The hotel also has a bar with a nice vibe for watching the incredible sunset with your drink of choice.

All rooms have a private bathroom with shower and toilet, air condition, Wifi, a small refrigerator with a bottle of drinking water, (that can be refilled on the hallway with filtered drinking water provided) and a kettle to make coffee and tea on your room.  Bring your own tea if you like a particular kind!

We will have an extensive buffet breakfast at the hotel after yoga every morning.  In the evenings we will have a vegetarian mezze group meal at one of the local tavernas on the first and last nights.  The other evenings you arrange independently where you want to eat (groups formed easily on the 2024 holiday, so you will have other people to go out to dinner with!)..

I have included the price of a boat trip with Rofos along the coast with various swimming opportunities, so you will be able to see some of the spectacular Aegean scenery.

There is excellent hiking on the island (you need to organise this yourself) and the opportunity to rent a car or use local buses to explore further.

Flight recommendations

There are no direct flights to Paros, but the easiest routing is a flight from Athens to London then Athens to Paros.  You can find flight combinations on skyscanner.net, but you want to take a morning flight from London to ensure arrival in Paros that day and an evening flight back to London to maximise the holiday (and the connections).

It is also possible to fly direct to Mykonos (which is cheaper) and take the Seajets CAR ferry (not the smaller passenger only ferry) from Mykonos to Paros which costs around £100 return.  These won’t be bookable until spring 2025.  I can provide more information on this routing if you require.

It is 15 minutes from the airport or half an hour from the port to Aliki.

Catherine qualified as an Iyengar  to her teaching, with a focus on yoga teacher in 1998 and has understanding stability and been teaching general (mixed mobility, based on yoga ability) classes in north London philosophy.  She has made 5 visits ever since.  She brings the Iyengar to Pune to study with the Iyengar principles of connection,         family.  She is also a lover of alignment, extension and balance cooking and an avid entertainer.
