Bio:Ellen Baggs Originally from the UK, Ellen has been living in Ireland for 19 years. Ellen qualified as an Iyengar Yoga Instructor in October 2014 after which she started teaching part time. She has been full time teaching since January 2015. Ellen originally started her yoga practice in the UK, studying different disciplines of Yoga before discovering Iyengar Yoga when she moved to Ireland. Ellen has taught in various schools and colleges in Clare and Galway. The importance of alignment, proper sequencing, safety and accessibility for all levels and abilities that characterise the Iyengar method, were fundamental to her decision to become a teacher. Iyengar Yoga is based on the teachings of B.K.S.Iyengar and is rooted in the 2,500 year old classical yoga tradition of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The practice of Iyengar Yoga begins with physical awareness of the body. In each posture, every part of the body is acted upon with intent and precision. The precision builds strength and stamina, balance and flexibility and safeguards against injury. The skillful use of equipment such as chairs, belts, blocks, etc. enables everyone regardless of age, strength, or flexibility to benefit from the practice. Each class ends with a period of deep relaxation. Ellen trained in Crumlin Yoga Centre, Dublin, under Aisling Guirke, Ireland’s most Senior Iyengar Yoga teacher. The training was a two year course during which Ellen studied anatomy, physiology and Yoga philosophy and first aid, alongside the discipline of Iyengar Yoga. Ellen has attended various workshops given by international senior Iyengar teachers, whilst living in Ireland, and looks forward to bringing the full range of her tuition skills to her pupils.
