I discovered Iyengar Yoga in 1984 when I had the good luck to attend a Yoga class in a local Church Hall near Henley on Thames. Ever since then I have been hooked and Iyengar Yoga has supported me through my life. I trained to teach Iyengar Yoga and passed my first assessment the year my first daughter was born ( 1991). I have had a successful career teaching in schools and retired to give more time to my own practice and attend classes in Pune. I have also been able to set up on my own teaching small groups in my own studio at home.
I am qualified to Junior Intermediate Level 1. I have enjoyed teaching young people in school settings, Teaching small classes in my own Yoga Studio and Teaching in Leisure Centres. I have served the AIYI as its secretary

I became a certified Iyengar yoga teacher in 2001 and then set up classes in New Milton. I passed the Junior Intermediate level 3 assessment in 2007. Under the new levels, I am a Level III teacher. I have travelled twice to the RIMYI (Iyengar Yoga Institute) in Pune to study for a month each time with members of the Iyengar family and RIMYI Indian teachers.
I enjoy teaching both mixed ability classes and improver classes in pleasant venues in New Milton. During the pandemic, I continued teaching by using Zoom. I now teach mostly face-to-face classes, although my Monday evening classes are still on Zoom. My classes are welcoming, and I see each of my classes as being a friendly community. The focus is on alignment and awakening the body, observing the breath and mind, and going further inward with the awareness to eventually find inner tranquillity and calm.
My interests include Indian philosophy, Indian mythology, world literature and history. I served on the Dorset and Hampshire Iyengar Yoga Executive Committee from 2005 until 2020, first as recording secretary and then as chairman.
I continue to develop my own practice and knowledge by studying with Senior and Advanced Iyengar yoga teachers from both the UK and abroad.

I have been interested in yoga from the age of eighteen when I first attended Iyengar Yoga classes. I graduated from the University of York in 1986 and went on to complete my PGCE at Homerton College, Cambridge in 1988. I spent the next twenty three years pursuing a successful teaching career in education. Throughout this time I have regularly practised yoga and in 2000 gained my Introductory Certificate Level 2. To maintain my own practice and develop my understanding of yoga I take part in yoga intensives and attend classes regularly with senior teachers.

Having always enjoyed yoga and exercise, Iyengar yoga was great to find because it's so beneficial, makes such a difference to your life. The concentration on the asanas (poses) leads you to awareness of your strengths and weaknesses in life, it helps you to deal with the situations life brings, be they good or bad. By teaching over the past few years, if I have done a little bit to open this door to others that's a good thing. As well as hard work in our classes we also have fun and laughter, so come and join us!

I currently teach a Beginner/General & Intermediate level class at Cowdray Hall in West Sussex. I also teach a children's yoga class as an after school club. I attend Iyengar Yoga workshops in London and enjoy a regular class with my senior teacher Andrea Smith in Chichester, West Sussex. Recently, I have learned so much from the on-line therapy workshops led by Judi Sweeting.
Having completed the teacher training with Alaric Newcombe in 2009 I gained my Introductory Level 2 certificate. In 2019, I was assessed to teach Junior Intermediate level 1 & am now a Level 2 Iyengar Yoga teacher.
I've gladly experienced a week long training with Geeta S.Iyengar Yoga during a convention in London, 2009 & enjoyed the celebration of BKS Iyengar 100 years convention in Harrogate with leading Senior teachers from the UK, 2018.

I began attending Iyengar yoga classes in 2002. Since qualifying in 2011 I have taught pupils of all ages and abilities, including students from the University of the Arts and guests at Crisis' emergency winter shelter. I chose Iyengar Yoga because of its emphasis on accuracy, safety and integrity. I've found the practice of yoga to be a reliable and powerful tool providing stability and resilience. It has made me stronger physically and emotionally, consistently reminding me of the need to develop sensitivity towards myself and the world around me. My goal as a teacher is to help others benefit as much as I have from Iyengar Yoga.
