African Adventure in Kenya – Yoga Holiday with Catherine Coulson February 2027

Event Description:

I am absolutely thrilled to be teaching in the beautiful Kenya beach town Watamu for the yoga holiday of a lifetime!  I found the perfect retreat venue in stunning Watamu on the protected Kenyan coastline north of Mombasa.  It has the unique feature of being at the base of beautiful Mida creek where we go for an unforgettable sunset trip on a traditional dhow.  The trip can be extended at the end for a few days’ safari in the nature conservancy opposite Tsavo National Park.

The yoga venue is a beachfront property – Swimbo and Kabi Houses, a haven of tranquility with stunning views over the Indian Ocean. Kabi is a modern construction surrounded by verdant jungle and exotic flowers and birds. All rooms have a private bathroom. There is an exclusive access to the beach which is part of the marine park and only a few hundred yards off the fabulous snorkelling reef.  There are two pools with sun loungers lots of different areas to relax and enjoy your holiday around the villas in sun or shade. You are walking distance from shops and a café with fabulous ice cream! To get there you fly to Nairobi and change onto an internal Jambojet flight to Malindi, which is less than half an hour from the venue.

The trip includes:

  • Inbound transfer from Malindi airport to Watamu
  • 3 meals a day (with one “free” night to explore the wonderful local restaurants and sunset)
  • 10 yoga classes
  • Private boat trip including snorkelling, dolphin spotting
  • Guided “float” through the mangroves
  • Traditional dhow boat sunset cruise
  • Guided visit to the Arabuko Sokoke forest reserve

Not included

  • Flights
  • Visa (if required – costs around £25)
  • Alcohol/soft drinks
  • Tips (allow £40 your contribution to the incredible villa staff)
  • Optional activities (massage, manicures/pedicures, kite surfing/paddle boarding/wake boarding, tours of Gede ruins etc)

Safari spectacular

If you are up for the whole Kenyan experience, you can opt for the safari extension to the nature conservancy on the river opposite Tsavo National Park, one of the largest national parks in the world at 22,000km2.  You go for 3 days/2 nights and stay in the spectacular Kulalu safari camp, in permanent “tents” with private bathrooms and verandahs, oberlooking the watering hole.  There is an abundance of wildlife so you will go out on Land Rover trips and can also enjoy a sundowner from the camp bar watching the elephants and other animals opposite.  Price dependent on how many people opt in).
Budget per person for 2 nights/3 days (TBC) £550 full board, conservancy entrance fee for one day, safari vehicle and driver/guide ($750 for 3 days split between whomever goes)..

Flight information:

You will need to book your flights to Nairobi separately.  British Airways and Kenya Airways both fly there with one leg an overnight flight and one leg a day flight.  Flights are around £750 return.  You then take an internal flights from Nairobi to Malindi with Jambojet and we arrange a transfer for you from Malindi to the venue.  I think the easiest option is the overnight flight to Nairobi and then to early morning flight to Malindi with Jambojet..  If you need to stay overnight in Nairobi airport, the best hotel option is the Crowne Plaza on airport. Flights suggested on on 5 February:

Kenya Airways depart Heathrow 17;25 arrive Nairobi 5:00, Jambojet 8:00 flight
BA depart Heathrow 9:50 arrive Nairobi 21:40 (overnight at airport), Jambojet 10:25 flight

Early bird prices and booking: (provisional; assuming minimum 8 students)

Single occupancy £1150

Double occupancy (per person) £1050

DATES FOR PLANNING
