Change regarding First Aid courses
24th October 2014
For the past several years Elaine Martin, an Iyengar teacher and experienced paramedic, has offered courses which have been provided at centres around the country and many of you will have attended them. Due to a change in legislation requiring increased levels of bureaucracy, Elaine will no longer be able to offer her courses. We would like to thank Elaine for her courses which have been very much appreciated over the years.
As you know, trainee teachers are required to hold a First Aid certificate* in order to qualify so trainers and trainees should note that trainees will have to organise their own attendance at suitable courses.
Qualified teachers are recommended by IY(UK) to attend refresher courses to maintain their first aid skills.
First Aid courses are available from organisations such as St John Ambulance, British Red Cross, local Ambulance Service First Aid Training. Our Membership Secretary has received two recommendations from teachers about companies that organise courses at other people’s premises so these may be cheaper than attending a course with one of the larger organisations. These are Manone Medical based in Liverpool (www.manonefirstaid.com) and Silver Cloud Academy based in London (www.silvercloudacademy.co.uk). Please note that the IYUK is not in a position to authorise any of these companies. If anyone has any further recommendations then please let Katie Owens know.
