About Manchester and District Iyengar Yoga
MDIY is the oldest and one of the largest Iyengar yoga organisations in the UK established in 1972. Our centre is a large, impressive Victorian/Edwardian building constructed in 1904 and was once used as a National Health clinic. There are three beautiful yoga studios, all of which have been fully refurbished and equipped with everything needed for members to enjoy their yoga practice in comfort. MDIY has been running classes in and around Manchester for over 40 years. Our building, acquired in 1992, is one of the largest and best-equipped centres for the practice and study of Iyengar yoga in the UK.
We offer a huge variety of different classes to suit all levels and abilities and hold regular workshops and events run by local, national or international teachers. Our aim is to encourage individuals, regardless of age, ability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin or religion to join the MDIY as members and to enjoy the benefits of Iyengar yoga. In addition we give members access to a system of approved and certified methods of teacher training and development.
We also offer Zoom classes for students unable to physically attend the Centre. Over recent years we have had the honour of hosting Zoom classes taught by senior teachers from Pune. These are transmitted direct to your own home or to the MDIY.
We are a friendly, welcoming centre where there is a real tradition of community spirit. We encourage many social activities among members and friends. We have just celebrated 50 years as a yoga community. Our Golden Jubilee celebrations culminated in a huge celebratory weekend which included a yoga demonstration, dancing, singing, a glamorous puppet show and delicious Indian food.
We look forward to welcoming you!
