Our Teacher
Birjoo Mehta is among the senior Iyengar Yoga teachers from Mumbai, India. He has studied with BKS Iyengar throughout his life, following his parents who also studied under BKS Iyengar. As a young man, Birjoo travelled with BKS Iyengar to all of his international events and Mr Iyengar used him as a model to demonstrate poses and the finer points of the practice. An engineer by profession today, Birjoo Mehta teaches at the Iyengar Yogashraya, Mumbai.
His workshops are renowned for their depth and precision, seamlessly integrating the philosophical aspects of yoga with the practice of asana and pranayama. Students consistently praise his outstanding teaching style, which combines remarkable technical knowledge, a gentle yet firm pedagogical approach, and a refreshing sense of humour. We are looking forward to welcoming him back.

” I really enjoyed the Convention this year for many reasons. Birjoo’s teaching was really inspirational, taking an unusual approach. I particularly enjoyed one of his initial comments about not wanting us to have any fear. We arrive full of anticipation and excitement, not knowing what to expect and he immediately put us at ease with that comment.”
“I think the most memorable parts of the teaching was Birjoo’s theme of sustainability & the eco-system, woven throughout the whole 3 days. He taught in a kind, soft & generous manner, taking great care to explain himself where any doubt occurred, plus linking our own asana & pranayama sustainability with that of the universe.”
“Birjoo managed to remind me what yoga is all about and how I can engage more mindfulness and heartfulness into the practice, how to be more sensitive and attentive during the practice by focusing on Dharmic practice and the uplift of the internal organs towards the upper chest and the collarbone.”
“Lifting the internal organic body up to the collar bones wow! We did it in every pose and it was so powerful as a way to get in touch with something deeper in each pose. I loved his question and answer sessions and the way he always linked this to the practice both on a physical and spiritual level.”
“The final class on pranayama was the best class I have ever attended.”
