Guruji made an important request to us in the last few months of his life, to develop our practice and teaching of pranayama. Prashant Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar have re-enforced this further, therefore our 2019 convention will be focused on pranayama.

This convention will provide a unique opportunity for teachers of all levels and intermediate practitioners alike, to learn pranayama from the basic principles up to the advanced levels over the weekend, supporting the development of our practice and teaching of the subject.

Our Teacher

The convention will be led by Navaz Kamdin, a very experienced senior teacher from the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, Pune, India. Navaz teaches a range of classes there including medical classes, asana and pranayama classes. She was taught by Guruji, alongside Geeta and Prashant, and now brings 50 years of teaching experience to this subject. With Geetaji’s blessing, Navaz will teach in the UK for the first time.

All who come in contact with Navaz are inspired by her clarity in teaching pranayama and by her knowledge, understanding, generosity and compassion.  She has never visited the UK before, and as she is a valuable part of the daily life of RIMYI we are honoured to welcome her in May 2019.

Residential

This residential convention will be held in the Orchard Eco Hotel and East Midlands Conference Centre right at the heart of Nottingham’s leafy University campus. It is a special place, designed to connect to the trees, and as a group we have commissioned the entire hotel for our use; which includes beautifully designed rooms, open foyer, balconies, and our yoga hall, flowing onto outdoor areas, gardens and grassland. A spacious contemporary designed building full of light, arcs of oak, glass, steel, stone, carefully elegant and designed to bring the environment in, as it embraces the lovely Nottingham campus parkland; this place allows us the space to learn, alongside our fellow Iyengar yoga practitioners, and to breathe.

Everyone who books a residential place will be able to enjoy complimentary access to a fitness suite and swimming pool at the David Ross Sports Village, very near to the hotel.  Opening times are 6.30am to 10.30pm but access during busy periods may be subject to availability.

There is plenty of free parking right next to the hotel.

Experience level

This convention is for practitioners with at least 3 years Iyengar Yoga practice including teacher trainees/mentees and teachers.
