Concerns, Complaints & Resolutions
At Iyengar Yoga (UK), we are committed to maintaining a culture of integrity, equity and accountability. This page provides access to our policies, guidance and templates, and offers a simple way for anyone – members or non-members – to raise a concern, submit a complaint, or provide feedback.
Our Approach
We aim to resolve issues informally wherever appropriate, but all concerns are taken seriously and handled with fairness, respect and transparency. Our process is designed to support everyone involved while upholding the Ethical Guidelines and teaching standards of Iyengar Yoga.
Our Concerns, Complaints and Resolution Policy explains:
- How we respond when concerns arise involving individuals or centres acting on behalf of IY(UK)
- The procedures, principles and support available throughout the process
- How accessibility, confidentiality and psychological safety are prioritised
- When issues may lead to formal investigation or disciplinary action
What This Policy Doesn’t Cover
- Personal conflicts not involving IY(UK)’s role or reputation (e.g. personal issues with a teacher)
- Civil legal matters (e.g. defamation, contracts)
- General dissatisfaction with Iyengar Yoga methods or styles
- Criminal behaviour (e.g. assault, hate crimes). Report these to the police
- Employment disputes at studios or centres not run by IY(UK)
- International issues beyond the UK legal framework
Certification Mark Responsibilities
Teachers and venues delivering assessments, training or events on behalf of IY(UK) must meet the highest professional and ethical standards. (Please see the Declaration of Conduct For Funded Work form [LINK].)
Use of the Certification Mark requires:
- Valid certification and current membership
- Adherence to the Iyengar method
- Ongoing personal practice and professional development
- Compliance with Ethical Guidelines
Breaches—such as misuse of the mark, dishonest representation, or unethical conduct—may result in suspension or revocation. Appeals are reviewed by the Ethics and Appeals Committee.
Guiding Principles of the Process
- Resolution-focused practice: aiming for constructive, non-adversarial outcomes
- Fairness and proportionality: triage that matches the response to the nature of the issue
- Inclusion and accessibility: flexible ways to raise concerns and request appropriate support
- Confidentiality and psychological safety: information shared only with those directly involved
- Transparency and consistency: clear communication at every stage, aligned with best-practice standards

Submit a Concern or Complaint
If you wish to raise a concern or provide feedback, please complete the form below or use the Speak Up For Change text box. This box can also be used to provide feedback or raise a concern anonymously, but please bear in mind we may be limited in what we can do to respond. All submissions are handled confidentially and sensitively.
We recognise that making a complaint can feel intimidating or uncomfortable. IY(UK) aims to make the process straightforward, timely, and fair, while balancing the interests of all members. Our accessible complaints policy allows teachers, students, staff, and the public to raise concerns—including historic ones—all will be treated equally. We also uphold our legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and related legislation. A summary of the Act is available here.
