I was lucky enough to be introduced to yoga as a child, when my mum followed ‘the bendy lady’ Lyn Marshall on TV. In my 20s, yoga became a regular part of my life and I eventually trained as a hatha yoga teacher with the Yoga Therapy and Training Centre in Northern Ireland, completing my diploma in 2004. I belatedly realised that all the teachers I had gone to over the years, including those running the hatha teacher training course, were qualified Iyengar yoga teachers even if they hadn’t stayed with Iyengar yoga subsequently. That attention to detail stuck with me and I felt I wanted the real grounding of an Iyengar practice, so I went on to complete the Iyengar Introductory training in 2006. Since then I completed further assessments and am now Level 3 (former Junior Intermediate 3). I run classes and workshops at Maitri Studio in Belfast and in the community. During COVID times I adapted to online teaching and foresee hybrid in-person/online teaching for some time to come, at least for my existing students.
